Postcards from Harbour Island | Tradewinds, Fronds & the Blues
The Bahamas has an all year pleasant climate with warm tradewinds stirring a gentle breeze even on the hottest of summer days. Casuarina-and palm trees tower protectively over sea grapes and brightly painted houses along the 3-mile pink and turquoise beach stretch that lines Harbour Island. And in Dunmore town the tree tops seem to be aflame with bright yellow and orange flowers of the Royal Poinciana. Palm fronds, coconuts, banana stems, empty conch shells, leaves of sea grape and the delicate bloom of the wild spider lily are as decorative indoors as they are useful outdoors … and used in abundance in every home. They go with everything, those colors. But you cannot take the magic colors of a summer storm inside, you can only take them with you – in a photo or keep it in your memory.
